Welding and soldering tools are commonly used in metalworks. Welding uses fusion, which melts the base metal, allowing other metals to be attached to the base. Soldering uses a lower temperature which doesn't melt the base metal. Instead it uses a melted filler metal, known as solder, which joins two metals together. Soldering typically uses a soldering iron, which is a hand held, heated instrument that is rather thin, allowing the operator to get close to the area they are working on. Welding requires rather larger equipment. Both applications require the operator to ensure they are wearing the required PPE to protect them from the hot metals they are working with.
