Wave energy is the capturing of the energy of wind waves and harnessing that power to create renewable energy. Wave power is different from tidal power, which captures the energy of the current. These again are different from ocean power, which include breaking waves, wind, temperature differences and salinity. Waves are created by the wind passing over the surface of the sea. If the wave speed is slower than the wind speed, there is a transference of energy as well as friction on the surface of the water. This is the energy that is collected.
