Underwater inspection is a branch of underwater port security within the maritime defence sector that checks for any intruder presence on the coastal waters of a country. The United States is the leading force of this, with efforts doubled since the rise in terrorism. The Underwater Inspection System uses real time 3D sonar to scan the underwater environment in zero visibility waters. The systems can be mounted on a small boat to scan harbour walls, piers, bridges for an underwater threat and can be used to complement long range diver detection systems by classifying the threat in 3D real time. The same system can be mounted on remotely operated vehicles to create 3D ship hull scans detecting small mine size objects.
