Printing Ink Formulation varies depending on the type of ink being used during the printing process. A few types include water-based, solvent-based UV and digital inks. In principle, all types of printing inks contain similar components but the type of raw material and quality are different depending on the print method. Inks are formulated using four main components: pigment, binders, solvents and additives. Pigments are used to create colour impressions, binders keep pigment evenly dispersed and bind them to the substrate. Solvents increase the flow characteristics and viscosity of the ink and additives alter the physical properties of the ink to suit the situation.
