Physical access control is the act of restricting entrance to a property or area by means of a guard, technology or mechanical means such as lock and key. Access control determines who is allowed to enter and exit, under which terms, location and time. Gaining access to a controlled area could be identifying a PIN, being present on a list or facial recognition. All manner of equipment exists, including turnstiles and complex door access control systems. Access cards are scanned with biometric scanner to allow for entry to specialised or secure areas.
