Fibre Optic Equipment include items that assist with the usage of fibre optics. A fibre optic cable is an assembly similar to an electrical cable, but containing one or more optical fibres that are used to carry light. The optical fibre elements are typically coated with plastic layers and contained in a protective tube suitable for the environment where the cable will be deployed. Optical fibre connector terminates the end of an optical fibre and enables quicker connection and disconnection than splicing. The connectors mechanically couple and align the cores of fibres so light can pass. Better connectors lose very little light due to reflection or misalignment of the fibres. In all, about 100 different types of fibre optic connectors have been introduced to the market. Fibre cable termination is the addition of connectors to each optical finer in a cable. The fibres need to have connectors fitted before they can attach to other equipment. Two common solutions for fibre cable termination are pigtails and fanout kits or breakout kits.
