This fighting vehicle incorporates various features in order to deal with the most difficult combat conditions. Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle has no firing ports in its hull in order to provide the troops with the necessary protection. This armored vehicle can also be used as a firepower support to protect the soldiers. Additional armor is placed on the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle in order for its occupants to be fully protected when involved in difficult and active operations. The passengers can enter the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle by using an electric powered door that can be found right at the rear of the vehicle. This armored vehicle can support and carry seven fully equipped soldiers. This armored vehicle can provide the occupants with increased and excellent mobility, survivability and lethality and these are the key elements when using this vehicle. Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle can also be fitted with an extra enhanced armor in order for the occupants to be provided with upgraded versions of this vehicle. It was designed for the cross-country ability but its speed is amazing because it can actually keep pace with the famous Challenger 2-series that were introduced in the British Army.

This combat vehicle can be used in close conjunction with the infantry's actions in order to build an offensive assault. Still, this system is upgraded in a constant manner in order to meet the new requirements of the battlefield. The Warrior family was designed in order to adapt to the necessary weapons and roles. This family of vehicles has been created in order to cope with the military operations in the hostile dessert conditions. Between 1988 and 1997, Warriors were produced especially for the Kuwaiti Land Force and for the British Army. Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle can carry the driver, its commander, the gunner and even seven fully equipped men together with their necessary supplies and weapons in order to face a 48 hour battlefield period.

The battlefield deployment of the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle is wide enough thanks to its special features. The vehicle is fitted with extra armor protection in order to cope with chemical attacks and conventional assaults. This armor covers the vehicle's sides, front and suspension designed to keep its occupants unharmed. Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle has the ability to carry the necessary number of soldiers, supplies and weapons to cover a 48-hour battlefield period in chemical, biological or even nuclear conditions. Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle can be used as artillery command, observation post vehicles, infantry section vehicles, repair vehicles, infantry command and anti-tank and guided weapon carriers.

Warrior Armament

The armament used by the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle consists of an electrically operated turret. This turret was designed by Delco and it can be used inWarrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle order to traverse right through a full 360°. The Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle's turret is fitted with the well known ATK Ammunition Systems. A M242 chain gun can be found on a stabilized mount. Self-Protection / Armor

Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle is designed to provide its occupants with the necessary self-protection. Therefore, smoke grenade launchers were mounted on either side of the vehicle's turret. Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle can produce 550bhp by giving some road speeds of almost 75km/h. The past combats have already proven the high efficiency of this vehicle when it comes to protecting its occupants. The crew can be protected against the anti-tank mines, missiles and small arms without being hurt at all. This is possible thanks to the aluminum armor construction. This highly effective addition provides the necessary protection against the 14.5mm armor piercing rounds. It can also protect the crew against the 155mm air burst shell pieces and even the 9kg anti-tank mines can be prevented from hurting the occupants of the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle. This enhanced protection is the key element when it comes to using this vehicle on the battlefield. The appliqué armor can work miracles for the crew because, from 2007, this vehicle is being fitted with a sort of "wrap two" armor. This type of armor has an increased effectiveness when it comes to dealing with the dangerous IEDs. The old armor was removed in order to make room for this innovative shield.

Warrior Fire Control and Observation

The fire control and observation that can be provided by the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle is extremely effective because the gunner's main station has Warrior Infantry Vehicles in convoybeen provided with the perfect optical sight. This sight can also be fitted with a thermal sight that can be used day and night in order for the targets to be spotted and identified. Therefore, the commander of the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle will be provided with 7 optical periscopes. They can guarantee the 360° observation and the dedicated sight that can be used for the weapon aiming. The Battle Group Thermal Imaging will be used in order to replace all the current images by intensifying their shades and lights. This program can also provide the GPS navigation system, the associated display screens and a new laser rangefinder.

Even the driver's main station has been equipped with 3 optical periscopes. The central one can be replaceable and the electro-optical periscope can be used instead in order to increase the night vision capability. Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle can also have a special mast mounted sensor installed. This extra sensor can come along with the driver's enhanced thermal viewing system.


The propulsion of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle is given by the four-speed and fully automatic transmission. The hydrostatic drive steering will play its role too. Infantry Fighting Vehicle is equipped with a highly efficient Perkins Rolls-Royce V8 Condor engine. This engine produces almost 550bhp by giving road speeds of almost 75km/h. The current suspension of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle will provide the necessary and effective high-speed crossing right across the rough terrain by reaching higher speeds faster than other battle tanks. Infantry Fighting Vehicle is fitted with the TR30 single pin tracks right from William Cook Defense. All these major systems together with the power pack are likely to be removed and even replaced and this operation can be performed in one hour by 2 men.

Variants / Upgrades

The British Army is keen to update its current versions of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Therefore, there is a wide range of programs in order to extend the life span of these highly effective armored vehicles. The British Army plans to extend their life to 2035 and the main upgrades will include the well known General Dynamics UK Bowman Tactical Communications System. A new night fighting capability will be added and it will take the form of a Thales Optronics Battle Group Thermal Imaging program. This upgraded program will include the eye safe laser, the thermal imager, the laser range finder, the fire control system and the inertial navigation system. This upgraded system has entered the military service in 2005 and it has been a success ever since.

A new turret is undergoing trial in order for the Infantry Fighting Vehicle to become more efficient. This new turret has a 40mm stabilized Case Telescoped Weapon System cannon. This new system will allow firing while the vehicle is moving. This turret has already been designed and built by CTA International and the upgraded Infantry Fighting Vehicle has already begun the necessary firing trials. Thales has also delivered the new STAG gunner's sight for the Infantry Fighting Vehicle. This STAG is stabilized by using two axes. It also includes the latest thermal imager. The safe laser rangefinder was also included in the design of this upgraded system.
