Environmental Monitoring and Analysis describes the process and action that takes place in order to monitor the quality of the environment. There are different aspects of the environment that can be monitored, these include air, soil and water monitoring. Air quality is measured by a number of different methods, but is difficult to establish as pollutants in the air are carried by the wind so are never static. Soil is monitored by having a sample sent to a lab for testing. Water monitoring is also difficult due to the continuous movement of the water. It must be tested with a specific idea in mind for what needs to be tested for.

Air pollution control has been formed from the Air Pollution Control Act which was a culmination of research done on fuel emissions by the government. it has lead to air quality criteria having a more fundamental criteria and give more power in defining what air quality is to government departments in order to bring forth more legislation to clean it up. Tests are carried out in order to maintain the relative cleanliness of the air in particular countries, cities and areas of landscape in order to provide the cleanest air possible.
