Elevators, lifts and escalators are an internal form of transport that allows a passenger to travel up flights of stairs without walking. Elevators (US and Canada) and Lifts (UK) are vertical and transport people and goods to a different level. A person or goods steps into the lift, the doors close and they select the level they wish to travel to. They are powered by electric motors that power steel cables into motion which in turn moves the body of the lift. These are especially useful to a person with heavy goods, or someone in a wheelchair. An escalator is a moving staircase that carries people between floors. Escalators move at an angle and are powered by a motor that moved a linked set of steps. They are commonly found in transport stations and shopping malls.
