Compressors increase the pressure of gas by reducing its volume. They are mechanical devises, the most common of which is an air compressor. Compressors are quite similar to pumps in that they both increase the pressure on a fluid, forcing it to flow through a pipe. Liquid is non-compressible whereas gas can be pressurised, but the aim of both is to pressurise and more

Compressors increase the pressure of gas by reducing its volume. They are mechanical devises, the most common of which is an air compressor. Compressors are quite similar to pumps in that they both increase the pressure on a fluid, forcing it to flow through a pipe. Liquid is non-compressible whereas gas can be pressurised, but the aim of both is to pressurise and transport its contents. Some compressors use hydraulic pistons to compress the liquid or gas while others are motor-powered. The pressurisation of a gas increases it's temperature, so this must be kept in mind when constructing a compressor.
