The acquisition makes Safegate an even stronger partner for the Airport industry. The Safegate Group has acquired the airfield lighting activities of the brand Idman (Idman AFL) from the Dutch company Philips. Idman was a division within Philips Oy specialising in the R&D, manufacture and sales of airfield ground lighting.
Increased Airport Safety
Commenting on the acquisition of Idman AFL, CEO of Safegate Group Per-Olof Hammarlund said:

Philips Airfield Lighting (previously Idman AFL) has to date been handled by Philips based in Vantaa (Helsinki), Moscow and Beijing. Research and Development as well as manufacturing have been performed in Vantaa. Philips Airfield Lighting will continue to operate under its previous name Idman Airfield Lighting as a stand-alone business unit. Kari Virtanen will continue as Managing Director for the unit. Idman AFL will benefit from SafegateÂ´s products, contacts and substantial Research and Development resources.
Together Safegate/Idman will be a truly global company with sales forces in Sweden, Finland, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Russia, UAE, Qatar, Australia, Singapore, China and the US.
