Balers are farm machines used to squash crops into cylinder or rectangle-shaped bales. The actions they perform transform the crops into compacted shapes that are much easier to handle, much easier to move around and much easier to store. Balers come in one of two types. Round balers that make cylindrical bales tend to be the more popular type in use today. Internally, these round balers feature fixed rollers and/or belts made of rubber that roll the crops up. Twine or netting subsequently holds the bales’ shapes in place. The other type, rectangular balers, are in more limited agricultural use. However, while the rectangle-shaped bales they produce are trickier to handle - on account of their larger size - they’re more easily transportable and offer space-saving advantages over cylinder-shaped bales. Balers are also available to compress plastic, card or paper products for applications in recycling and waste disposal.
