Architectural Hardware, or architectural ironmongery is a term used for the manufacture and wholesale distribution of items made from iron, steel, brass, aluminium or other metals for use in all types of buildings. Items available include door handles, closers, locks, cylinder hinges, window fittings, iron railings and sockets. The term is used to differentiate between these items and any goods sold by an ironmonger. Ironware use in the building trade is a long tradition. Local blacksmiths would produce works for houses, churches and industrial buildings. During the industrial revolution, ironmongery became more and more widespread, though business often remained local, distribution became much easier and further afield.
