Architects are specially trained professionals who design, plan and review the construction of buildings. These buildings can be as small as a shed or as large as a palace. Architects can design any type of building, whether this be a dwelling, an attraction or an industrial unit. In history, most architects were artisans, stone masons or master builders. An architect and engineer were considered the same this. As technological advances were made the architect and engineer roles separated and became more defined.

To become an Architectural consultant a person must attend university and obtain a degree as recognised by the Architect Registration Board, or ARB in the USA, or Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Following completion of their degree, an internship must be undertaken, usually lasting two years, followed by a registration exam, then an architect is fully licensed.
