Airport Security is extremely important for the safety of 1000s of people everyday from passengers to workers to visitors. Every passenger is screened and checked along with their luggage for explosives, sharp objects and liquids. Screening of passports is also mandatory at Airports to prove your identity and citizenship.

Airport security systems, include, CCTV, monitoring systems, access control technology, terminal security, biometrics, blast protection, x-ray screening, substance detection, perimeter protection systems, video surveillance, tamper tape technology, wireless alarm systems, authenticating and identification equipment and physical security such as blast proofing and bomb protection.

Airports employ a broad range of techniques and equipment for the prevention of terrorist attacks. Solutions include explosive detection and x-ray screening systems for baggage and passengers, surveillance systems for access control and behavioural monitoring, and anti-ram security bollards for protection of airport perimeters.

Airport security equipment includes all manner of equipment used within an airport in order to maintain safety and security to passengers and staff within an airport. These include full body scanners, baggage x-ray machines and fell body metal detectors. Airport security has tightened up significantly in recent times so technology has caught up fast, with new security measures being implemented across the world to maximise safety.

Baggage regulations state each passenger can only carry 10 items of liquid 100mls or less in their hand luggage. They have to go through the baggage scanner separate to the passengers bag, excess clothing must be removed (Jumpers and boots ETC) and any electronic devices. Bags are then passed through an x-ray scanner and examined for any prohibited items.

Metal detectors and full body scanners are also commonplace in an airport. Passengers are required to walk through a full body metal detector. Staff are alerted to anything the passenger is carrying that is metallic. This could be something as simple as glasses or loose change. A full body scanner is for anyone who sets off the metal detectors. A passenger is requested to stand in the machine and is x-rayed to see if that person is carrying anything unsavoury about their person.

Another important area regarding airport security is checkpoint technology. Airport security checkpoint technologies consists of technologies that enable safe, secure and adequate safety measures to be carried out at security checkpoints within airports. These technologies run baggage x-ray machines, full body scanners and metal detectors. Equipment can be programmed with the latest technologies in order to run safety measures at the highest possible specification.

Facial recognition technology is also used when passing through passport control. Passport photos are scanned using a biometric scanner whilst simultaneously scanning the passengers face, compares images and details and then compares the two images to determine whether the passengers face matches the picture on the passport. Passengers then progress through to security and go through x-ray bag scanner, metal detection and occasionally a full body scan.
