Agfa Graphics is a world leader in prepress solutions including manufacturing of platesetters, digital printing plates and pre-press software for magazines and newspapers. Agfa Graphics is also a leader in digital printing and UV ink development and production for a wide variety of applications.
The Agfa Graphics Inkjet business consist of 3 divisions: (1) Wide Format Printing with the :Anapurna and Jeti UV presses, (2) Large Format Digital Screen Printing with the :M-Press and (3) Single Pass with the :Dotrix Modular single pass digital UV inkjet press.
The advanced Agfa :Dotrix Modular is built on a genuine Edale flexo press chassis and exudes build quality from the base up. The robust :Dotrix design is modular allowing any number of different configurations including flexo coating and varnishing, in line die cutting, slitting, sheeting, folding etc.
With the ability to print on a wide range of paper, carton board, polymers and multilayer substrates with variable data, :Dotrix is creating new levels of performance and opening up a new world of design possibilities. Brand owners and progressive printers can work with new materials to offer new, innovative products with the convenience of digital inkjet and near-offset quality.
Agorix UV Inks
Dotrix uses Agfa-designed and manufactured :Agorix UV inks. These are high performance, vivid and durable enough for demanding flexible and folding carton packaging, industrial labels and POP applications.
The :Agorix inks were developed using Agfa’s extensive graphic arts heritage combined with the latest UV ink technology. The inks are only manufactured by Agfa and meet stringent quality control requirements that ensure the :Dotrix can run all 48 inkjet heads in full production at 1200 m²/hour reliably.
The Agorix UV inks are applied using the proven Single Pass Inkjet Colour Engine (SPICE) technology meaning that the colour is applied in one fully controlled process with perfect colour registration. Variable droplet size is used to help ensure a full colour gamut and smooth detailed reproduction even in traditionally demanding applications such as skin tones.
An integrated UV light station instantly cures the UV inks into tough, durable and brilliant colour, firmly bonded to the substrate. The apparent resolution is 900DPI and the impressive and striking print quality together with the flexibility offered by variable data and the massive choice of printing substrates allows new levels of design innovation for flexible packaging, labels, point-of-display, point-of-sale, cartons, banners, signage etc.
The versatile :Dotrix can print on virtually any substrate on gauges up to 600 microns and widths of 65cm (print width of 63cm) and can operate in a servo driven roll-to-roll with jumbo unwinder/rewinder. It can also operate in a roll-to-sheet mode.
The substrate can range from 20 micron flexible foils to 380gsm folding card and just about everything in-between. Corona, anti-static and web cleaning substrate pre-treatment options are available. Press speeds are from 5m/min to 32m/min allowing production of up to 1210m²/hour.
A typical configuration is 7.38m x 1.69m with a weight of 6500 kg. :Dotrix comes with standard CMYK inks with additional orange and violet options for the most demanding colour work. The modular design allows different flexo stations to be fitted for coatings, varnishes, flexo-white or spot colours.
Environmental benefits of digital inkjet
One of the main benefits of digital inkjet is the simplicity of production. There is no waste, no time delay between jobs and definitely no pressroom chemicals or solvents needed to clean down the press. A new print run begins with the press of a button.
Inventories of finished print can be kept to an absolute minimum since re-prints are both fast and easy. :Dotrix is fully digital, so the first print is identical to the last. Designs can even be changed during a job with zero waste. Press waste simply becomes a thing of the past. With :Dotrix you print only what you need when you need it.
Digital Inkjet – Fast, Simple, Predictable
Switching from one print job to another now only takes seconds so urgent work and deadlines can be met with ease without the need to worry about plate-making, press stoppages and all the time and waste that this involves. This is good for both the environment and your supply chain with measurable financial and environmental benefits.
Should more prints be required later the digital data is simply recalled and re-sent to the :Dotrix. No more archived films or plates are needed, the only consumable required is the ink itself. :Dotrix is re-writing the rules for the packaging & POS industry, discover it for yourself.
