SELEX Sistemi Integrati is taking part to the 10th edition of IDEF (International Defence Industry Fair) Exhibition going to be held in Tyyap Fair, Convention and Congress Center in Istanbul, Turkey, from 10th to 13th May 2011.
Ground Control Precision Approach Radar
The company will bring on show its capabilities within the Finmeccanica stand by exhibiting the naval version of the Kronos radar, Blue Shield, a state of the art C4I system for Air Surveillance & Defense, the demonstrator of Forza NEC, SELEX Sistemi Integrati's programme for the Land Forces digitalization, and a demonstrator of the company Vessel traffic management system, for the control and monitoring of sea traffic. For the first time ever SELEX Sistemi Integrati will also display the PAR 2090C radar model and its demonstrator, a ground controlled Precision Approach Radar recently included into the company portfolio.
SELEX Sistemi Integrati in Turkey
SELEX Sistemi Integrati has been a reference technological partner in Turkey for 30 years now. Along this period of time the Finmeccanica company has need known and appreciated for its capabilities either in the electronics for defence and in the civil systems domain. Thanks to its defence electronics capabilities SELEX Sistemi Integrati delivered to Turkey eight air defence radar systems, in particular seven RAT31DL and a RAT31S system, which have been integrated within the NATO NADGE network. SELEX Sistemi Integrati's civil systems have been particularly successful in the country since the second half of the seventies. In fact, in the air traffic control domain, Turkey's national radar surveillance network and the air traffic planning and control infrastructure (seven control centres and around 20 radio stations) were supplied in full by SELEX Sistemi Integrati as part of an active long-term partnership dating back to 1974, when the company provided the first air traffic control systems for the airports at Istanbul and Ankara.
More recently SELEX Sistemi Integrati was awarded a contract by the Turkish aviation authority to fully upgrade and enhance all the country's air traffic control centres, under the SMART (Systematic Modernization of ATM Resources in Turkey) programme.
The contract included the supply of a national system based in Ankara to manage the entire Turkish air space plus six incoming traffic control centres to be installed at the airports in Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum. The systems supplied by SELEX Sistemi Integrati are also able to support disaster recovery by enabling air traffic control to be transferred from the national centre in Ankara to the centres in Istanbul and Izmir, which will thereby effectively become backup centres.
In 2010 SELEX Sistemi Integrati was awarded a contract for the realization of a VTS (Vessel Traffic System) system for the management of maritime traffic in the coastal areas of Izmir, Izmit e Mersin.
Within the Finmeccanica stand, SELEX Sistemi Integrati displays the model of the Kronos 3D in its naval version and the PAR 2090C, a land sensor for precision approach. The company also puts on show the FORZA NEC demo and the VTS demo, besides Blue Shield, a command and control system for air surveillance and defence.
Kronos 3D is a 3D, multi-role, medium range, C-Band radar whose main role is the surveillance of the surrounding space to detect, track and identify targets and to provide the weapon system with target indication. It is manufactured in two different versions for naval (KRONOS NV) and land (KRONOS LAND) missions. It has been designed to support increasing operational roles with a short reaction time.
KRONOS 3D is designed by SELEX Sistemi Integrati on the basis of its successful experience in advanced Multifunctional radar systems, like the ship borne EMPAR, provided to the Italian Navy and other foreign Customers.
PAR 2090C is an X-Band, ground controlled Precision Approach Radar designed to provide efficient and accurate tracking of over 32 targets, with the ability to control up to eight runways. With a modular and open architecture and extensive use of COTS components, PAR 2090 C offers reduced maintenance costs and easy growth capabilities. The high resolution display console delivers accurate detection and target discrimination in all weather conditions and provides excellent clutter rejection.
The ForzaNEC system demonstrator for the digitalization of land forces has the scope of improving their operational efficiency in the out of area and expeditionary operations. It has been designed to support peace-keeping and peace-enforcement joint mission profiles.
By appropriate simulations, the demonstrator supports the exploitation of the system architecture applied to the programme.
In the naval and maritime domain SELEX Sistemi Integrati has developed an integrated network of the Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) to provide advanced solutions for the control and management of safe vessel traffic, maritime environment monitoring, sea Search & Rescue (SAR) operations support. The system architecture is based on multiple control layers, identified as: local, area and central, interacting at different operational levels. Each level supports the operational coordination and decision, according to its mission. In this kind of architecture the local stations directly collect data from the sensor sites and interact with maritime traffic.
The VTMS by SELEX Sistemi Integrati are available in fixed, transportable and mobile versions and are able to guarantee the coverage and management of wide geographical areas such as the Mediterranean basin, which represents the widest application of this system.
Blue Shield is a state of the art C4I system for air surveillance and defense. It allows airspace surveillance as well as the air defense reaction capabilities enhancement. It also permits the air force to be more efficient both when in peace, or in crisis and war time. The system provides a modular system
which is adaptable according to operational requirements. Blue Shield open architecture allows the integration of coastal and border protection systems.
