Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI)
DSEI is the world's largest fully integrated defence and security show, spanning air, naval, land and security sectors. DSEI takes over the ExCeL site in London's historic docklands area every two years. The event serves as the premier meeting place for the world's international suppliers and procurers of defence and security products and equipment. Attendance at DSEI is a top priority for senior military from established and emerging international markets, drawing VIP visitors from the operational, procurement and technical advisory communities.
The last DSEI incorporated an organised programme of delegations from Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific Rim. With less than a year to go before DSEI 2013, more than 30 national delegations and pavilions from every region around the world have already indicated their interest to participate.
Building the businesses of both small to medium sized companies, as well as the prime contractors is central to DSEI and the show is structured to help bring together companies that seek partners for collaborative ventures, while also promoting opportunities for direct sales and offering direct access to a varied supply chain.
Global Defence and Security Show
The Vehicle Park and Land Feature Zone which proved so popular during the 2011 show will be expanded to include a live demonstration area, which companies can use to highlight vehicle mobility. Plans to introduce a seminar theatre showcasing everything from capability demonstrations to technological innovations are also underway.
All the major land primes have already confirmed their attendance at DSEI including: General Dynamics, BAE Systems, Rheinmetall, Land Rover, Jankel, Streit Group, Patria, JCB, Navistar Defence, Supacat, Nexter, Iveco, Daimler and ST Engineering.
The maritime element at DSEI is also expected to be strong, with warships from several countries likely to be berthed alongside the ExCeL centre dockside for the duration of the show. At DSEI 2011, the Royal Navy's HMS DAUNTLESS and HMS TYNE, the Norwegian Navy's HNoMS STORM, the Federal German Navy's FGS BRAUNSCHWEIG and the Dutch survey ship HNlMS SNELLIUS proved a popular feature, hosting on-board tours for hundreds of interested visitors.
Building on the success of the waterborne demonstrations at DSEI 2011, next year's show will feature an expanded marina and in depth scenarios, covering current and future threats to maritime security and warfare. This will provide exhibitors with a unique opportunity to demonstrate their related products, technologies and services in the environment they were designed to be used and in front of an international and potential export market.
DSEI: Military, Aerospace and Security
Air systems will be a prominent feature at DSEI 2013, including a range of state-of-the-art helicopters. Air static displays at DSEI 2011 included the Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), QinetiQ's lightweight, solar powered UAV, Zephyr; and AgustaWestland's latest helicopter for the British Army and the Royal Navy, AW159 Lynx Wildcat.
Supported by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) the Robotics Zone is a dedicated area on the show floor established to promote and demonstrate the capabilities of a diverse range of unmanned systems.
Past demonstrations included Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), while for 2013 the organisers hope to synchronise Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) with the maritime demonstrations taking place in the dock adjacent to the ExCeL. Already, the Robotics Zone has more than doubled in size from 8,611 ft² in 2011 to 21,527 ft² in 2013 - plenty of room for the Unmanned Combat Air Systems (UCAS) which are also expected to feature at the show.
Other new features for DSEI 2013 include six dedicated seminar theatres where visitors will be able to find out about the latest technologies and discuss the latest issues in Air, Land, Naval, Security & Special Forces, Unmanned and Medical.
