Hose Pumps for Primary / Thickened Sludge Feed
The simple glandless, "straight through" construction without valves, seals, vanes, rotors or impellers, has clear advantages in handling viscous sludges liable to contain grit, rag type or other solids which cause blockages, while the ability to impart minimal shear, combined with the high levels of volumetric accuracy when handling additives such as polyelectrolyte, is important in terms of both efficient flocculation and additive consumption.
Reduced operating costs can be achieved by the installation of Watson-Marlow hose pumps in the feeding of primary or thickened sludge to digesters or filter presses, and in primary tank auto-desludging.
To complete primary auto-desludging, following digester treatment, the sludge goes to secondary storage tanks, where polyelectrolytes are dosed by low-pressure peristaltic pumps prior to dewatering.

Peristaltic pumps have no valves, seals or glands, and the fluid contacts only the bore of the hose or tube. Simple to install, easy to use and quick to maintain, provide a low whole life cost, they are the hot new technology, and the world's fastest-growing pump type.
Supply of quality potable water within current permit levels is paramount, and efficient plant operation is essential in meeting these critical standards.
These chemicals can cause vapour locking, abrasive wear and pump clogging, leading to poor performance and premature failure of traditional metering pumps. Watson-Marlow peristaltic pumps are a proven solution and exceed performance expectations.
- Self-priming to 30ft and dry-running
- 875,000:1 turndown - same pump!
- Accuracy to ±0.5%
- Lowest Life Cycle Cost (LCC)
- No internal check valves, sealless design
- Microlitres to 33L/min
- 60 second pump rebuild
- Will not vapour lock
Applications include pH control, disinfection, primary and secondary disinfection, accurate sampling, metering and dosing of difficult fluids such as sodium hypochlorite, ferric chloride, sodium bisulphite, alum, fluoride, carbon and lime slurries, polymers, aqueous ammonia, potassium permanganate, caustic, aluminium sulphate, flocculants and lime slurry.

High maintenance diaphragm, rotary lobe, or progressive cavity pumps cannot match the rugged, reliable 24/7 dependability of the Bredel hose pumps which:
- Do not require expensive ancillary equipment
- Pump abrasive slurries, corrosive acids, gaseous liquids, as easily as water - no vapour locking
- Ideal for high viscosity and abrasive products
- Can run dry indefinitely without damage
- No seals, ball valves, diaphragms, glands, immersed rotors, stators or pistons that can leak, clog or corrode
- Fully reversible to clear clogged suction and drain lines safely
- Suction lift capability to 9.5 metres and is self-priming
- True positive displacement for accurate and repeatable metering
Save both time and money with the Bredel hose pumps by reducing your maintenance.

At the heart of all Bredel pumps is a remarkable composite reinforced hose. The hose is constructed from high-quality compounded rubbers reinforced with four individual layers of braided nylon, and finished by high-precision machining.
- Over-occlusion of the hose stresses both pump and hose, reduces hose life, and places unplanned loads on the pump bearings.
- Under-occlusion results in loss of pump efficiency and damaging back-flow, which also reduces hose life.
Bredel is the only hose pump manufacturer to machine its own hoses, and no other manufacturer can match Bredel's experience of configuring pump and hose to precisely meet the flow, pressure and temperature characteristics of any application.
Bredel's innovative hose design and unique ground construction has created the benchmark in hose performance and life. The unique design ensures that compression forces are evenly applied, and the enormous restitutional ability of the hose creates powerful suction handling and accurate metering capabilities.

APEX Hose Pumps
The APEX pump incorporates Bredel's long proven direct-coupled technology, delivering the most reliable pump design in a compact footprint. While the APEX gearbox mounts directly to the pump housing, the APEX pump rotor is supported by its own sealed bearing hub, isolating and protecting the gearbox from integral forces.
Through superior heat dissipation, precision machined hose elements and optimised hose compression, APEX has been designed to reduce maintenance costs dramatically in comparison with other hose pumps.
