AMEC Earth and Environmental

An International Leader in Technical Innovation

AMEC’s Earth & Environmental division is a speciality engineering, environmental, geotechnical, materials, water resource and program management consultant providing clients with solutions to their business challenges. We support clients throughout the full life cycle of their programs.

With more than 4,500 engineering and environmental professionals spread across the world - from Canada to China - we are one of three core divisions of international engineering and project management parent, AMEC plc. We undertake around 15,000 projects each year in more than 40 countries and 80% of our business is from repeat orders.

Together with our sister divisions, we offer full-service solutions to clients around the world. We draw on our experienced local managers and geographical reach to support the needs of clients, regardless of project size and complexity.

Our extensive range of activities includes:

  • sustainability and carbon management services
  • pioneering the use of automated road weather information systems
  • multi-state flood plain mapping for the US Federal Emergency Management Agency
  • award winning strategies for brownfield development
  • environmental support for major energy projects.
  • helping the U.S. Army in Europe to comply with demanding environmental regulations and standards

In addition to the specialist services the global business provides, our regionally organised teams focus on major markets such as energy, mining, transportation, public sector, industrial, utilities and sustainability.  We continue to grow at a fast pace and we have more than doubled the number of offices and people over the past decade.

Environmental Consultancy

The North American market is particularly strong in the natural resource sector, with significant energy and mining projects in Canada. Recently we helped De Beers open its first diamond mine at its Victor site in northern Ontario. In the United States, we are a strategic partner to the U.S. Department of Defense on projects locally and abroad, providing environmental consultancy and design/build projects in such diverse places as Afghanistan and Guam.

In Europe we operate out of multiple locations across the UK, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Romania. We have a strong reputation in areas such as contaminated land, impact assessment, compliance and due diligence and a growing reputation in the areas of climate change and sustainability.

We are committed to innovation and technical leadership. In addition to the development of innovative solutions to everyday challenges, we support more than 30 ‘communities or interest’ and professional discussion groups. These ensure collective knowledge and learning benefit clients across more than 150 international office locations.

Worldwide Sustainability Programme

We have also developed a worldwide sustainability programme which is recognised in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index as No 2 in its sector; and the environmental business maintains a core team of sustainability consultants specialising in carbon footprint analysis, climate change and green building practices.

We recognize that different clients have different needs. From a simple environmental assessment to a complex, multi-disciplinary project, our top people provide tailored solutions tailored for:

  • Energy
  • Public sector/Federal government
  • Defence
  • Industrial/Commercial
  • Infrastructure
  • Mining
  • Water

We place considerable emphasis on protecting the health and safety of our employees, clients, and the community. It is our policy to meet or exceed the applicable health and safety requirements based on central government, regional and local regulations. We maintain our own protective equipment for use in environmental service activities, especially hazardous waste site investigations. Furthermore, field personnel (e.g., drillers, geologists, and engineers) are medically monitored and health and safety trained to work in contaminated areas.
